Located in Sacramento, California, the Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment Center was commissioned by WellSpace Health as a forward-looking behavioral healthcare facility dedicated to healing, recovery, and long-term community wellness. The project reflects a compassionate and human centered approach to healthcare architecture, creating an environment that supports dignity, safety, and personal restoration.
With a construction budget of $37 million and anticipated completion in 2027, the approximately 53,427 square foot residential treatment center will provide 200 residential beds and significantly expand access to substance use disorder treatment services within the region. Conceived as both a healthcare facility and a place of refuge, the project is designed to foster recovery through carefully planned therapeutic spaces and supportive residential environments.
Situated on a 3.17-acre site at 6810 Stockton Boulevard, the two-story facility is organized to support a full continuum of care, including medically monitored detoxification, structured residential treatment, and transition to outpatient services. Program elements include residential housing wings, a secure detoxification unit, clinical and counseling spaces, and a variety of communal amenities focused on wellness, recreation, and social connection.
The architectural design balances operational functionality with a strong sense of place and comfort. Articulated building massing, a continuous entry canopy, and a prominent two-story feature wall establish a welcoming and human scaled presence. Natural light, direct access to outdoor spaces, and durable residential inspired materials contribute to a calm and supportive healing environment that prioritizes therapeutic engagement and emotional wellbeing.
Communal dining areas, recreation spaces, and wellness focused environments are integrated throughout the project to encourage connection, stability, and recovery. The design reinforces the importance of community and shared experience while maintaining privacy, security, and individualized care.
By combining evidence-based treatment planning with thoughtful architectural expression, the Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment Center establishes a new benchmark for integrated behavioral healthcare design. The project reflects a commitment to creating spaces that not only provide care, but also inspire healing, resilience, and hope.
