Vista Crest and Parkside Place Housing

Completed in 2013 for Related California in partnership with New Economics for Women, Vista Crest and Parkside Place Housing is an intergenerational residential community located in Los Angeles. Developed with Portrait Homes Inc. as general contractor, the project delivers 60 units of thoughtfully designed affordable housing that brings together seniors and families within a single, cohesive neighborhood environment.

The development is organized as a dual-building community that responds to the distinct needs of its residents. A three-story senior residence provides 42 one-bedroom units designed for accessibility, comfort, and ease of living for older adults, while a collection of 18 three-bedroom townhomes supports families with more expansive living arrangements. Together, these housing types create a balanced residential ecosystem that encourages interaction across generations while respecting the privacy and independence of each household.

At the heart of the project is a strong emphasis on community life and shared experience. A central courtyard serves as the primary organizing space, offering landscaped outdoor areas for gathering, relaxation, and informal connection. Additional amenities including tot lots, barbecue areas, and outdoor seating extend daily life into the landscape, encouraging residents of all ages to engage with one another in a safe and welcoming environment.

The senior-focused building further enhances quality of life through a range of supportive amenities. A community room provides space for social events and gatherings, while a fitness center promotes health and wellness. Leasing and management offices are integrated on-site for convenience, and a dedicated media room offers opportunities for recreation and entertainment. These shared resources reinforce a sense of dignity, independence, and belonging for senior residents.

Through its intergenerational design approach, Vista Crest and Parkside Place creates a vibrant and inclusive residential environment where seniors and families coexist within a carefully planned community framework.
