Developed for Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD), the Ruth Teague Mixed Use Development is envisioned as a transformative affordable housing community designed to address the growing need for long-term housing stability in South Los Angeles. Through a combination of supportive services, community-oriented programming, and transit-accessible urban design, the project seeks to create a resilient environment that supports both individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity.
The development will provide 60 affordable multi-family residential units, with up to half of the homes designated as permanent supportive housing for homeless youth and families. By integrating stable housing with access to supportive resources, the project is designed to foster long-term independence, personal growth, and community reintegration. The residential component encompasses approximately 44,760 square feet of living space, offering thoughtfully planned units that balance efficiency, comfort, and access to natural light while responding to the needs of vulnerable populations.
At the ground level, the project extends beyond housing to provide amenities that directly support the surrounding neighborhood. A dedicated childcare center will serve working families and residents, reinforcing the project’s role as a community resource as well as a residential development. An additional 1,500-square-foot flexible commercial space is planned for future retail or property management use, creating opportunities for local economic activity and neighborhood engagement.
Located along a major public transportation corridor, the project embraces a transit-oriented approach that connects residents to employment centers, schools, healthcare facilities, and essential services throughout Los Angeles. Positioned within both Los Angeles City Council District 9 and the Los Angeles County Second Supervisorial District, the approximately 79,000-square-foot site is strategically integrated into a broader network of civic and community resources.
More than an affordable housing development, the Ruth Teague Mixed Use Development represents a long-term investment in community resilience and social equity. By combining supportive housing, family-oriented services, and accessible urban connectivity, the project reflects a holistic vision for addressing homelessness while strengthening the social fabric of South Los Angeles through thoughtful and community-centered design.
Project initiated and led as Design Director as a co-founder / partner at QDG Architecture.
