Marbella Club in Candalero Point

    About

Completed in 2000 for Candalero Point Partners, Marbella Club at Candalero Point is a luxury coastal residential community located within Palmas del Mar along the shoreline of the North Caribbean Sea. Developed with a total project budget of $23 million, the 10-acre resort community was envisioned as an elegant retreat that combines contemporary resort living with architectural influences drawn from the historic character of Spanish coastal towns.

The development consists of five residential buildings, each rising five stories above a level of below-grade parking and containing approximately 150 residences. Unit sizes range from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet, offering spacious homes designed to maximize views of both the Caribbean coastline and the adjacent golf course. The planning of the community carefully balances private living environments with shared outdoor spaces, creating a relaxed and connected residential experience rooted in the natural beauty of the site. Architecturally, Marbella Club draws inspiration from the scale, rhythm, and intimacy of traditional Spanish villages, incorporating visual references to the historic streetscapes of Old San Juan. Distinctive tower elements evoke the language of Spanish Revival architecture, giving each building a recognizable identity while reinforcing the atmosphere of a cohesive seaside village. Courtyard-oriented layouts, landscaped pedestrian pathways, and connections to a nearby neighborhood park encourage walkability and foster a strong sense of community throughout the development.

Arrival sequences were carefully designed to create memorable transitions between public and private space. Welcoming forecourts serve as shared entry plazas for each building, establishing a clear sense of place and arrival for residents and visitors alike. Expansive private terraces extend interior living areas outward, embracing the Caribbean climate and supporting an indoor-outdoor lifestyle centered around light, air, and ocean views.

Environmental stewardship and resilience were integral to the project’s planning. The buildings were intentionally positioned away from the immediate beachfront to preserve existing palm groves and protect indigenous wildlife, including migratory sea turtles inhabiting the shoreline. In response to the demands of the coastal environment, the development also incorporates hurricane protection systems that enhance long-term safety and durability.

Residents benefit from a range of amenities and services that reinforce the project’s resort character, including secure parking, concierge services, and gated entry access. Through its combination of coastal sensitivity, architectural character, and resort-oriented living, Marbella Club at Candalero Point creates a distinctive residential destination that reflects both the cultural heritage and natural beauty of Puerto Rico’s Caribbean coastline.

Project initiated and led as Design Director as a co-founder / partner at QDG Architecture.
